Morogoro, Tanzania – Women food vendors in the Morogoro region have received training as part of an economic inclusion programme, called Mwanamke Shujaa, led by Coca-Cola Kwanza, a company in the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa group, in collaboration with Oryx Gas Tanzania and the Morogoro Municipal.
The Mwanamke Shujaa programme seeks to support over 400 women entrepreneurs involved in the food vending business, commonly known as Mama Lishe. Since its inception in 2019, the programme has reached women vendors across Tanzania, promoting more sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship, employability, and access to equipment.
To extend the long term sustainability of the programme, a dedicated food marketplace has also been established at Msamvu Stand. This new area features 50 modern kiosks, providing a safer and more structured environment for food vendors, particularly women who previously operated in challenging conditions—often along roads near Msamvu Stand.
“We act in ways that aim to help improve people’s lives – whether for our employees, those connected to our business, or the communities we call home,” said Coca-Cola Kwanza General Manager, David Chait.
“People are at the centre of everything we do. Community involvement allows us to bring positive change to both the communities in which we operate and to our business. Each one of us can make a difference for a better shared future,” Chait said.
“We are committed to helping create shared value for our business and the communities we serve,” Chait concluded.
