Proud moment for Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Ethiopia as home-grown leader takes the reins

Addis Ababa – Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) in Ethiopia has appointed Melkamu Abebe as its new Managing Director, the first Ethiopian in this leadership role, following a highly successful term as General Manager of Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU).

Abebe brings more than 16 years of experience in the Coca-Cola system to the role, having started his career in the company’s Graduates in Training Programme in 2008, before excelling in roles spanning supply chain and general management, while demonstrating exceptional leadership, strategic thinking and a commitment to operational excellence.

As the GM of CCBU, Abebe oversaw the successful integration of separate bottling entities, and has a proven track record of delivering growth, optimising logistics and driving customer satisfaction.

He returns to his native country to direct the continued growth of CCBA in Ethiopia, in a market considered to have significant potential for the company.

Abebe holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Addis Ababa University and has completed leadership programmes at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Commenting on Abebe’s remarkable progress at CCBA, Chief Operating Officer, Gavin Hudson said: “We have a people-first culture that ensures unparalleled professional development for our valued employees.

“Our aim is to nurture potential, attract and retain high-performing talent, and invest in growth.

“CCBA’s continued market success and status as the largest bottler of beloved Coca-Cola brands on the continent are other key differentiators.

“We empower individuals to thrive and our certification as a Top Employer in Ethiopia and Uganda, as well as in Africa at the regional level, reflects the strength of our commitment to being an employer of choice for professionals with a desire to learn and grow.

“At CCBA, we invest in local communities and develop local talent by producing and distributing locally and supporting economic growth.”
