Maputo, Mozambique – A group of 100 women from Maputo, who are students in hospitality and beverage service, sharpened their skills and expanded their expertise to include non-alcoholic “mocktail” beverages through the Bartender Qualification Programme, supported by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) in Mozambique.
The training, conducted in partnership with the Mozambique National Institute of Tourism (INATUR), included restaurant and bar service, mocktail preparation, and entrepreneurship, followed by a three-month internship at leading hospitality establishments.
This is the second year of the programme, following the graduation of trainees in Maputo and Matola who successfully completed the training in 2024.
The initiative aims to improve service standards in the hospitality sector and promotes self-employment opportunities while empowering women in an industry historically associated with men in Mozambique.
Participants were equipped with advanced skills in crafting innovative and high-quality mocktails, while also enhancing bartenders’ abilities.
Recognising the global demand* for non-alcoholic beverages, CCBA is proactively tapping into this trend by equipping emerging talent with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving hospitality landscape. In Mozambique, where consumer interest in non-alcoholic beverages is rising, CCBA saw an opportunity to bridge the skills gap and empower up and coming professionals.
“We act in ways that aim to help improve people’s lives – whether for our employees, those connected to our business, or the communities we call home,” said general manager of CCBA in Mozambique, Duncan Wyness.
“People are at the centre of everything we do. Community involvement allows us to bring positive, measurable change to both the communities in which we operate and to our business,” Wyness added.
“We are committed to helping create shared value for our business and the communities we serve,” Wyness concluded.
